Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me—to keep me from exalting myself! Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong. -2 Corinthians 12:7-10
In life as a believer, we will always strive for perfection. We thank God for Jesus that He came to die for us for the remission of our sins. He has carried our transgressions to the cross. So a question that many of us may ask to God, “I prayed to God to take this thorn, desire, sickness, etc. away from me and He has not. Why is this the case?” There are some things that God will take away and there are some things we have to deal with ourselves. We cry, pray, fast, decree, and prophesy about it, and it will not go away. When we are in our weakest moments, God will give us the strength to endure. The weaker we are, the stronger we are in God. Our weakness is the entry way or the door for strength to enter.
Because we have thorns in our flesh, it does not give us the excuse to live like most men. The thorn helps us to know what to do when facing our weakness. When God gives us a “No”, what are we suppose to do? We do not have to live with our thorns. God has given us to strength for us to remove it ourselves. If we have to live with thorns, it would defeat the purpose of Jesus dying and bearing or sins. God has given us the strength to overcome the strongman. The spirit of the Lord will come upon you mightily for you to fight and overcome (Judges 14:6).
God will not take it away but give you the strength to endure and overcome. Overcome in a sense of even though this thorn is in me, I will not allow it to lead me. In the moment of enduring and pressing on, God will comfort us with his love and remind us of his promises. The victory is in the days. Not in seasons. Daily we shall walk in God and know how to declare and manage our days to be victorious which causes us to have victorious seasons.
